we’ve pieced together a pretty cool history of boon and the life it led before we took the reins.
in the beginning, the site of boon hotel + spa was home to the local mercury mining community. the land sold to an industrious soul in the 70s who built the first generation of the hotel. in 1981, it was renovated extensively, the pool was added, and the hotel was renamed paradise cove (you can view the photos at check-in). it enjoyed a successful run and sold in 2001 to become the retreat resort and spa. ownership changed, but the location continued to serve as a sunny retreat for those who came to explore the charm of guerneville. and then the dot-com hit and the area struggled.
in the summer of 2007, crista luedtke, our owner/visionary, was inspired to bring it back to life. she believed in the space—what it could be and what it could do for the town and for those who would visit. it would be a “boon” on all accounts. in april 2008 boon hotel + spa was born….and what a transformation. listen, it’s not new fancy construction, it’s using the best of what was there in a way that preserves the past but brings to light the present. we believe in modern design, interesting elements, simple + clean lines, sustainability, equality, and the highest quality of service and amenities. we’re glad you’re here to experience it and to be a part of its herstory.
explore the area around boon hotel + spa
there are lots of things to see and do here if your sense of adventure beckons you further than the comfort of our poolside chaise lounges. first, we recommend you explore wine country. the russian river is famed for its pinot noir, and there are a lot of secret gems and artisan wineries nestled along its winding road—let us help you discover them. take a boon bike down the road to armstrong woods, a california state park we’re lucky enough to have in our backyard, or around town and down to the russian river for a picnic. rent a canoe or test your skill at a paddle board and float the river with turtles, blue herons, the occasional otter, and a lone bald eagle that has made it’s home here.

the not so fine print
adult property
we are a 21+ adult property offering a retreat space, quiet pool + spa and 24hr poolside bar, which are not geared toward children. many of our guests are coming for a quiet, zen-like experience away from their own children. if you are looking for a more family-focused property, please let us know, and we can happily provide some suggestions in our area.
dog policy
*** not all rooms are dog friendly. dog accommodations MUST be pre-arranged by telephone or email. fees start at $75 for 1 night, $125 for 2 nights, and $150 for 3 or more nights. if you arrive with a dog and have not pre-arranged, we may or may not be able to honor your booking. due to the intimacy of our property and respect for all guests, dogs are not allowed on holiday weekends. no dogs allowed unattended in rooms. if owners leave the property, dogs must be with their owner. please plan accordingly if you bring your pup. failure to follow these dog policies can result in termination of stay and forfeiture of any balances.
cancellation policy
boon requires a 14-day cancellation period due to the seasonal nature of the area.
outside of 14 days prior to arrival: a 1 (one) time date change may be allowed, based on availability.* after a 1 (one) time move has been made, a cancellation at any time will forfeit the deposit. if the reservation must be cancelled outright, outside of 14 days, we are able to offer a full refund voucher to be used towards a return visit within 1 (one) year from your original checkout date, or issue a refund of the deposit paid less a $40 credit card processing fee.
*in some instances a rate difference will apply. if the new rate is lower, the balance will carry over to your new reservation. if the new fare is higher, the difference will be collected at the time of the change.
within 14 days of arrival: a cancellation made will forfeit the full amount of the deposit and taxes paid.
within 48 hours of arrival: will be charged 100% of total booking.
no shows: will be charged 100% of total booking.
discounted stays: are non-refundable.
all reservations are subject to minimum stay requirements unless otherwise arranged at time of booking.
spa cancellation policy
if you need to cancel or reschedule spa treatments, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance. we are not able to accommodate any time or date changes within 48 hours of treatment start time.
outside 48 hours: a credit card processing fee of 7% will be retained for cancellations made outside of 48 hours.
within 48 hours: guest will be responsible for paying 100% of treatment(s).
same day cancellations + no shows: guest will be responsible for the full amount plus 20% gratuity for the therapist.
discounted treatments: are non-refundable
good neighbor policies
no unregistered guests on property. quiet hours are 10:00 pm – 8:00 am. should any hotel guests be unreasonably disturbed by a party, due to excessive noise or other extreme circumstances, the offending party may be charged for the other guests inconvenience. we want everyone to love it here. if you are not complying with hotel policy or requests from management to behave, boon reserves the right to ask you to leave and your booking will be non-refundable. don’t be that guy.
pool + hot tub rules
to ensure all guests visiting boon are safe + comfortable + relaxed, we have following rules for our pool + hot tub area – no music other than ours, no smoking (even vape), no floaties + inflatables or noodles, no outside beverages unless it is wine/beer purchased while tasting in the area which will be free of corkage charge, no dogs without leashes, no glass, no diving, no horseplay. the vibe at boon is super chill and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the shared space equally.
non-smoking property
boon is a non-smoking property. you can smoke at the designated area in our parking lot but nowhere on premises, this includes vaping, e-cigarettes, cannabis, hookah, cigars, etc.
a fee of $200+ will be charged for any noticeable odor or visible smoke seen anywhere on the property, other than our designated smoking area in parking lot.
please respect our request and our environment.
pool + hot tub use
only guests who are staying at the hotel may enjoy the facilities at boon including the spa. we do not allow day passes for pool + hot tub use.
heating + air conditioning
all rooms have mini split units for air conditioning and heating. please help us keep our equipment operational by leaving the remote to the a/c unit secured to the wall.
*there is a minimum $250.00 fee for damaged or missing remotes.
most rooms have a vintage malm fireplace which operates seasonally (nov-apr) for ambiance and warmth.
parking
onsite parking is available complimentary. we do not have electric vehicle charging stations at this time but there are some located close-by in downtown Guerneville.
check in/checkout
check-in time is 3pm. checkout time is 11am. early arrivals and late departures must be prearranged and are subject to availability.
in-room amenities
all of our rooms have a mini fridge*, stemmed wine glasses, GoVino wine glasses for poolside sipping, water glasses, boon wine key, cutting board, cheese knife, hair dryer, bike lock, cotton swabs + cotton balls, ear plugs and luggage rack. we can provide an iron, ironing board, extra towels, pillows, any toiletries you left behind, etc upon request. we have record players + vintage vinyl in lieu of televisions.
off the grid
please be aware that cell reception can be little to none in guerneville, depending upon your carrier. we do have wifi throughout the property but video calls have been shown to be spotty during high usage times. please plan meetings accordingly.
